Recording Your Child's Growth
Sharing the Records of Growth.

By Wayne Parker, About.com

While the child and his or her parents are the main custodians of these important records, often there are others who would like to share in watching the growth and progress of children. Grandparents, extended family, and friends often have an interest in keeping track of the kids.

Digital Scrapbooks. Sue Chastain, the About Graphics Software Guide, has created a number of resources for digital scrapbooking. Sue's ideas involve using graphics software programs to paste your child's photos, scanned art and other mementos into predesigned templates which can then be printed, emailed or posted on the web. This is a great way to share your memories and images with others.

Photo sharing sites. Whether or not you choose to do a digital scrapbook, you can certainly share pictures online with others. Take a look at a review of various photo sharing sites by Wendy Boswell, the About Websearch Guide. Make sure to visit flickr.com, which is one of my favorites.

Family websites. Another great option for dads who have a little web savvy is to create a family website where you put your photos, maybe a blog, scanned artwork from the kids or other information about your family to be shared with extended family members. About Family Internet Guide Marcy Zitz has developed some excellent suggestions for creating a family website and finding a place to host it.

Whatever approach you take to creating and maintaining the record of your child's growth, make sure you keep the record. It will be important now and in the future for both you and your child, and for the rest of your family. And be creative and have fun in the process!
