A Father's Commitment to Life Long Reading

Now with two kids married and our middle daughter away at college, I still feel the need to help keep them committed to reading.

Books and the Grandkids. Julie and I have started buying books for our granddaughter, even though she is only one. Having a good library for your grandkids will help pass on the love of reading to the next generation.

Family Book Clubs. I know of some families in our area that have started a family book club, where all the adult family members read the same book each month and then have a family get-together where they have treats, discuss the book and compare notes. I really like that idea as everyone takes responsibility for life long learning.

Whatever your strategies, it is important for a father to communicate the importance of reading at each stage of his children's life. A love of reading may perhaps be the greatest gift you will ever give to your children--a gift that will be an important foundation for their lives and for future generations.
