The thought of using technology to be a better father might come as a surprise. People use parenting books, the latest parenting techniques and more to become better parents, but how can technology help

Communicate Frequently.  Certain types of technology, particularly Skype and other chatting devices, are particularly useful when parents are divorced and the father lives far away or when the father has to travel often for work. Fathers can set up specific times with their child when they can talk to each other over such devices.

Play Games.  Technology also presents a new way in which parents and children can play games with one another. They might hop on to a computer to help each other out with a few rounds of Slingo or to play cards with one another. Additionally, if they both have certain cell phones, both father and child can play games such as Words with Friends, Scramble with Friends and Draw Something throughout the day.

Learn.  One of the responsibilities of a parent is to help his child learn. Look into items such as the LeapFrog LeapPad or other interactive laptops for little ones. Teach your child how to play the games, and work together on solving some of the more difficult puzzles. You can also find little robots with games or books that say the words for them.

Give In.  Money certainly cannot buy love. However, you can show your son or daughter that you think he or she is ready for more responsibility by purchasing an iPhone, iPad or a new laptop. Show that you want your child to have the best equipment for note taking and research during the first college days. Make discovering how to use the pieces of technology a learning experience that you both can share together.

As we move onward into the 21st century, a whole new range of ways in which parents and children can connect with each other has emerged. Of course, good old fashioned quality time together is never going to go out of style. However, in an ever expanding and busy world, parents sometimes just need a bit of help from the wonderful world of technology.
