First time new fathers can be a hard group to shop for. New moms love baby stuff, but new dads' needs are not quite that obvious. Anyone looking for a gift for a new father should find some ideas here that will fit the bill for his or her favorite new dad.
1. Diaper Dude Diaper Bag
The Diaper Dude selection of diaper bags breaks the mold for those frilly and fancy bags that moms carry and sometimes end up across dad's shoulder. The Diaper Dude bags are decidedly masculine and still have all the functionality of the finest mom-focused diaper bags. The price is comparable with other higher end bags but will fit dad's personality and masculinity much better!
3. Itzbeen Baby Care Timer
A new dad's schedule changes significantly with a new baby. The Itzbeen Timer is a great invention for new dads (and moms) to help them keep track of the baby's schedule. The device has four different timers, each with a button to set a "countup" timer. So one timer can be for feeding, one for changing, one for sleeping, and one extra one. And for mom, the feeding timer can even specify which side is next for breastfeeding. Dad will really appreciate this simple and functional gift.
4. Kodak EasyShare P85 Digital Frame
The new dad will want to share his pictures of the new little guy or girl with the world, so a digital picture frame that can sit on his desk or in his work station will be a very welcome gift. The Kodak P85 takes an SD card or a USB flash drive for storing the pictures, and the LCD frame has high resolution and works well in any light. It's 8 inch display is also large enough to see Dad's favorite photos.
6. Ultra Flip Digital Video Camcorder
A compact but very usable digital video camera, the Ultra Flip is the ultimate in convenience. It starts up within just a few seconds and will record 120 minutes of video. When you are ready to save the video to your PC or Mac, a USB arm flips out to quickly connect to the computer. And at only about 2" by 4", it can easily fit in a shirt pocket for instant access.
7. Moby Wrap Baby Carrier
While Moby Wrap front baby carriers are marketed primarily for mothers, a lot of new dads I talk to have one for them as well. Unlike the strap-based baby carriers, the Moby Wrap is just one long piece of stretchy fabric that lets you wrap the baby right up close to Dad. It is so flexible that a dad can use it almost anywhere and any time. It does take a little getting used to, but dads will figure it out and really enjoy it.
8. Daddy Diaper Changing Tool Box
This is the ultimate diaper changing basket for any new dad. Baby wipes, a mask for the really toxic diapers, goggles and tongs for the ultimate messy diapers, ear and nose plugs, rubber gloves, extra diaper, and biohazard disposal bags make for a fun and entertaining gift for the dad-to-be. A lot of fun, this gift will lead to lots of laughs as well.
9. Jogging Stroller
If the dad in question is a runner or jogger, a stroller made for joggers would be an excellent gift idea. The Bob Revolution strollers are excellent choices for men. They have a little longer handles than the average stroller, and they can also be quickly converted into a more standard stroller from non-jogging functions.
10. Be Prepared - A Handbook for New Dads
If your new dad is looking for some very practical advice, then consider giving him Be Prepared. This is one of my favorite books for new fathers. Chocked full of good advice and practical tips for the new father, Be Prepared is a good investment for any dad.
