Does my ability to earn enter into the calculations?

By Wayne Parker, About.com

Question: Does my ability to earn enter into the calculations?
Answer: That depends on the judge and the circumstances. But generally, a child support payment would not be reduced if a father quit a full-time job and returned to school. If he became unemployed and then took a lower paying job, a reconsideration of the amount of child support due might be appropriate.
