Society and the popular media seem to be sexualizing young girls; encouraging them to dress and behave in a sexualized manner. A recent study seemed to bring additional awareness to this trend.
In the study, 60 girls from 6 to 9 years old were shown two identical paper dolls. One of them was dressed in a stylish but modest way while the other was dressed in the increasingly common more sexualized style. The girls were then asked which of the dolls they would want to dress like. About 70% chose the more sexualized doll. Remember, these are girls from ages 6 to 9!
Learn what fathers can do to combat this trend and teach their daughters the importance of resisting this societal trend and help their daughters make better choices about their body image.
