Once again, it has been time for me to catch up on some reading and I just got through with two rather amazing books that are very high on my list of must-have books for dads.
The first one of these was The Family ROI Experience by Barbara Fagan-Smith and Lesli Gee. I had some reservations because the premise of the book was that good business principles and practices could be used to benefit a family in its functions. But after I read the book, those reservations were altogether gone! This is an absolute gem for any family that just wants to be better. The book leads the reader through a journey of discovery about how families should work and the principles and practices that make them strong. The illustrations are really fun and the readings and exercises that come with each step of the journey are engaging and enlightening.
The other book I read recently was Stillpower - Excellence with Ease in Sports and Life by Garret Kramer. The author is the founder of a company called Inner Sports and has long been an athlete and coach. Stillpower is an absolute must read for any athlete or youth sports coach because it challenges the conventional wisdom of what a coach should do for his players, and helps the coach and the athlete see that mental preparation is the key to success in athletics and in life. This was a very thought-provoking book and one I enjoyed very much. It has forever changed the way I see athletics, sports and coaching success, and has broad implications for other pursuits in life as well.
