Dads—Who Needs Them?

Follow me on:

I've heard some scuttle among my dad friends about a recent book entitled Knock Yourself Up by Louise Sloan. The book is subtitled, No man? No problem! The book is a guide, following Sloan's example, of getting pregnant and delivering a child without a father, only a sperm donor. A commentary on the book in the Nashville City Paper suggests that many "single moms by choice" are enjoying the freedom to be the only parent in their child's life. Fortunately, the commentary's author has a husband who is a committed and devoted father, and she recommends that dads keep on being devoted to their children. I'm on her side of that argument, but I am certainly biased.
