Child Identity Theft Protection Guide

By , About.com Guide   March 7, 2008

Follow me on:

According to the Federal Trade Commission, 5% of the 255,000 victims of identity theft in 2005, the most recent year for which data is currently available, were under the age of 18. The number of children victimized by identity theft has increased 40% since 2003. NextAdvisor.com offers a free Child Identity Theft Protection Guide which provides daily, quarterly and annual steps that parents can take to protect their children. This is a great resource for dads looking to take the next steps to protect their children's identity.

Thanks for the info. As a father to be, this was not even on my radar screen but it is now. Seems like it would be easier to steal a child’s identity than an adult’s. Scary. Looks very preventable, though, so that’s good.
